World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30th July, 2024

Nedan Foundation observed “World Day Against Trafficking in Persons” on 30th July 2024. The event was observed with the theme of “Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking” in solidarity to end the child trafficking in the districts in BTR. Run To End Child Trafficking was kick Off from Kokrajhar HS & MP School Field by Senior Professor Shri Debarshi Brahma from CIT Kokrajhar & Mrs. Rani Helen Wary from Kokrajhar Girls Higher Secondary School along with Chairperson of Dr. Digambar Narzary, Chairperson of Nedan Foundation. Ms. Helina Daimary a most talented Bodo actress the Goodwill Ambassador of Nedan Foundation for Child Trafficking free Bodoland, Assam mission took part. The Participants were from BB Engineering College, CIT, Law College, Commerce College, Kokrajhar Girls HS School, Rashtra Bhasa Vidyapith English H.E School, Sister Margaret Nobel School, Adolescence group from community level from Nedans working area, Destination Children Home- CCI and Folklore team from New Bashbari. Moreover there were around 300 participants in the program.

International Youth Day on 12th July, 2022

NEDAN foundation celebrated International Youth Day event with the theme “Intergenerational Solidarity-Creating a World for all Ages”. The CSO has focused more on ending Violence Against Children’ in BTR region. Considering children as most vulnerable group the supports and protective environment shall be ensured from all ages through solidarity to nurture our future generation. The program was organized on 12th August, 2022 in different institutions- Runikhata HS School in Chirang, Hatisar Dadgari High School in Chirang, Udalguri UN Academy School, Udalguri & Amlaiguri LP School Sabankata, Baksa with mass students (youths of the schools), teachers, and SMCs.

Nedan Foundation observed “World Day Against Trafficking in Persons” on 30th July 2022 on Saturday with various day long program in Destination Girls Home, Anthaigwlao. The event was observed with the theme “Use and Abuse of Technology”. The DGH girls and local adolescents were participated in the program. A mime skit performance was showcased by the DGH girls and highlighted the issues of betrayal, luring of children for trafficking and organ selling. Games and drawing competition was conducted to mark the theme “Use and Abuse of Technology”.

International Women’s Day celebration on 8th March, 2022

NEDAN Foundation was observed International Women’s Day on 8th March with the theme of “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future. NEDAN Foundation was observed an International Women’s Day on 8th March 2022 at Weaving Destination Campus, Anthaigwlao, Kokrajhar. Around 40 women from the Anthaigwlao village participated in the program and followed by the game of Matki phor among women’s. Lastly we have distributed a small gift to supported livelihood women who are working with us since many years as weavers from Anthaigwlao & vegetable vendor from Kachugaon area.

State Child Protection Day on 4th March 2022

NEDAN has taken an initiative to bring youth together and to make children aware of their rights by conducting Sports for Development on this auspicious day. The main objective of the program is to protect every child from being trafficked, child marriage, child sexual abuse, child labour etc. Altogether there were 150 participation in the program from different villages.  The program has witness colorful activities and sports for the Children. Prizes were distributed to all the winners.

    

Nedan Foundation Day celebrations on 1st March 2022

Today Nedan Foundation completed 18 years. Nedan is now entering into adulthood. Within 18 years of ground breaking works on Child Protection, combating cross border human trafficking, promoting higher education for girls, creating livelihood for returnees domestic workers, IT training for drop out youth in the Bodoland Territorial Region, Assam has been recognized by BTR govt, Assam Govt, Govt of India and International organisations.

National Girl Child Day on 24th January 2022

This year NEDAN Foundation observed National Girls Child Day/International Day of Education on 24th January 2022, by sending 1175 post Card by Adolescent girls to the Prime Minister of India. Postcard signature campaign was organised for the ‘Champions for Girls Education’ demanding extension of RTE Act, Secondary Schools within 5 km, mandatory scholarships for girls, safety measures for girls while commuting to the schools.

National Children’s Day on 14th November 2021

To strengthen the networks among children and adolescent NEDAN has celebrated with the Theme: “No Children will be out of school: Let’s go to school”. NEDAN organized one day sports event celebration of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s Birthday on 14th November 2021 which is known as Children’s Day or Baal Divas held in Salguri (Lungsung) which is located in the forest encroacher area. Program was attended by District Coordinator of PHOSAN Abhiyan, Kokrajhar, Centre Administrator of One Stop Centre (OSC), Kokrajhar and President of ASSA (All Santhali Students Association).

“International Day of the Girl Child” on 11th October, 2021

“International Day of Girl Child” is celebrated every year on 11th October focusing on the need to address the challenges faced by girls and to promote girls empowerment. This year also NEDAN Foundation celebrated through Girl’s Football Tournament with the theme of “Digital generation. Our generation” at Bodopur, Gangia under Kokrajhar district. There were five football teams namely- Bithorai Girls Club, Toraina Girls Club, Bharatnagar Girls Club, Vijoynagar Girls Club & Baladom Girls Club. The invited guest was Mr. Fwthaisula Narzary VCDC Chairman of South Gangia. Dr. Digambar Narzary shared the objective of observing the International Day of the Girl Child. More than 200 adolescent girls and community people were present in the event and prize were distributed to the Champion, Runners-up & Best player.

Sensitizing Awareness on Human Trafficking in Relief Camps

Anti Human Trafficking team of NEDAN Foundation visited in the flood affected families living in the relief camps of Sisubari village under Koila Moila VCDC in Chirang district and sensitized the relief inmates along with trafficking alert posters and distributed dignity & hygiene Kit for adolescents girls and toiletry items. In this relief camp there are 102 households of Bodo and Adivasi community and total population is around 493.

International Youth Day on 12th August, 2021

NEDAN Foundation celebrated an “International Youth Day on 12th August, 2021 with the theme of “Transforming food systems: Youth innovation for human and planetary health”. This year International Youth Day was celebrated through Football match between two girls football club namely- Bitorai Girls Club vs. Toraina Girls Club at Mwinaguri Field, Gangia under Kokrajhar districts. The guest of the event was invited from Gogia Unit ABSU (President, Secretary & Members). More than 100 participants were present for the auspicious event to celebrate the day of the International Youth Day and prize were distributed to the winners.

NEDAN Foundation organized one day Caravan Rally on 30th July 2021 “World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with the theme of “Victims’ Voices Lead the Way” #EndHuman Trafficking with the aim of “ending violence against women & children” in different location of Kokrajhar district especially in Forest villages to spread the message to stop evil issue human trafficking and to create awareness on the importance of Education to reached out 1 lakh population in collaboration with Kokrajhar district Administration. The Caravan Rally had started from BTR Secretariat main gate with the presence of Dr. Digambar Narzary, Chairperson of NEDAN Foundation, Mr. Preetam Brahma Choudhury, CWC Member, Media personals, Youth activists from Anthaigwlao, DGH girls and the NEDAN Staffs.

National Girl Child Day on 25th January 2021

NEDAN Foundation in collaboration with NERSWN (NGO) celebrated National Girl Child Day with the theme “Transforming Education for Girls”. More than 250 participants were present for the auspicious event to celebrate the day of the girl child. The Honourable Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Nilut Swargiary (MCLA), the Guest of Honour was Sri. Raju Narzary, Executive Director of NERSWN. Ms. Nizwra Boro (ACS) and Ms. Anjali Ekka (NEET) were invited as special guest to inspire the adolescent girls. Folklore artists from different parts of Kokrajhar performed and brought awareness based on social evils like child marriage, child labour, and also focused on the right to education.


Peer Leaders training for adolescents club members on 24th January 2021

On 24th January’2021 NEDAN Foundation organized a peer leaders training for adolescents club members on “Effective management & Felicitation of club” at Weaving Destination Campus, Anthaigwlao. Mr. Jahangir Hussain, District Program Officer (DPO) of SSA was invited as a resource person for the training who took session on the rights of the children. Miss Alinisha Boro and Snigdha Neog also took a session on Life skill education. More than 120 adolescents girls from different forest villages of Kokrajhar like Kachugaon, Gongia area, Lungsung, Ultapani, Jharbari and girls from Destination Girls Home (DGH) were present.


Blanket Donation Drive on 16th January 2021

In the 2nd phase NEDAN has distributed blankets among 105 families of 5 villages namely- Gaurangpur, Dinajpur, Sonapur, No.2 Salbari and Lokhipur Village under Lungsung area of Kokrajhar district. District Social Welfare department has supported with 57 blankets.

Vocational Training on Tailoring

Every year NEDAN Foundation has been supporting many dropout girls and boys from underprivileged community especially the adolescents belonging to the forest dwelling and conflict affected communities of BTR , Asssam. District Dissemination On the Assam Policy Brief report on “Life in the time of Covid-19 pandemic: Mapping the impact of Covid-19 on the lives of school going children especially girls in Assam” was held on the 18th of December at Bodoland Guest House. There were renowned guest from the Education department of Kokrajhar, CWC, DCPU and other Civil Society Organization along with girls champion of NEDAN Foundation. The program was inaugurated by pouring of water on the white rose plant with the vision of making a “Peace Kokrajhar”. The survey was conducted by Centre for Budget and Policy Studies on behalf of Champion for Girls’ Education supported by Malala Fund. The report was finally released in the District level.

National Children’s Day on 14th November 2020

NEDAN Foundation in collaboration with Ultapani L.P and M.E School celebrated National Children’s Day programme on 14th November 2020 at Ultapani L.P and M.E School field. Mr. Bidyut Medhi, DLSA Secretary was the Chief Guest and Mrs. Malati Rani Narzary, CWC Chairperson Kokrajhar was the Guest of Honour. There were around 300 participants including students, teachers, SMCs, Folklore artists, DGH girls and staffs of NEDAN. Different activities like cultural and folklore live show, dance competition, drawing competition, games etc were held and performed. A two-days Caravan Rally “Ending Violence Against Children” was finally concluded on the National Children’s Day programme.

CARAVAN Rally for “Ending Violence Against Children” through folklore live show on 12th and 13th of November 2020

A 2 days Caravan Rally was held on the 12th and 13th of November 2020 with the aim of “ending violence against children” through folklore live shows in different location of Kokrajhar district. The post COVID-19 period has had many setbacks on children where about 1.6 billion students across the globe are out of school (UNICEF), there is increase in the number of child sexual abuse, child marriage and child labour in the region. With this immense increase in child abuses it is important that the masses are sensitized towards child related issues and communities must be empowered. NEDAN Foundation in collaboration with Kokrajhar District Administration held a 2 days Caravan Rally for mass sensitization through folklore live shows carried out in 25 different locations and reaching out to 1 lakh population with the awareness on the increasing child abuses, child marriage, school dropouts and ensuring protection and promotion of child rights mainly highlighting on the importance of education as education is the only solution to diminish all other social issues.

International Day of the Girl Child on 11th October, 2020

International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated every year on the 11th of October focusing on the need to address the challenges faced by girls and to promote girls empowerment. It aims to break the boundaries posed by the society’s stereotypes and exclusion. It is integral to achieve gender equality and empower the girls to end all forms of discrimination against them. NEDAN Foundation every year celebrates International Day of Girl Child as birthday for children of Destination Girls Home (DGH) signifying the rebirth of all the girls freed from the exploitation and inequalities they faced. NEDAN celebrated the day with the common theme “My Voice, Our Equal Future”. The day started with cutting of the cake followed by other activities like poem recitation, extempore speech competition, singing competition and various fun games. There were around 45 participants including girls from the nearby villages who participated in the event. In order to empower and encourage girls towards leadership and management, the whole program was organized and hosted by the girls of DGH. Towards the end of the program prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions.

Engagement of Destination Girl’s Home Children during Lock-down

Pickle making for self reliance during lock-down period by Destination Girl’s Home (DGH) children. NEDAN Foundation produced 500 Kg of organic mango pickle by the girls of DGH. The aim is to raise some funds to manage their home and continue their studies.

Production of face mask during the Covid-19 lock-down 2020

Government of India had made wearing face mask and maintaining social distancing compulsory to stop the spreading of corona virus but most of the people from Assam could not afford to buy a face mask. With that aim NEDAN Foundation started distributing mask among the poor and needy people of Kokrajhar district. The face masks that were distributed during Covid-19 lockdown were made by a girl named Nilima who received training from NEDAN Foundation and working for self sustenance. The masks produced by Nilima and her friend were distributed among the adolescent boys and girls of different villages of Kokrajhar district. At present Nilima and her friend is actively involved in producing face masks which is not only lending a hand towards her livelihood but also helping people from the spread of Corona Virus.

World Day against Child Labour on 12th June, 2020

World Day against Child Labour is celebrated every year on 12th June. This year NEDAN Foundation also organized the day with the theme ‘Child labour is no child’s play’ in the Destination Girls Home campus by displaying of flash cards and posters to campaign against Child Labour and raise awareness through social media. Social distancing was strictly maintained during the program. Three award winning short movies on child labour and education was screened. Two team member of Childline Kokrajhar delivered a speech on social issues like child marriage, child trafficking and child labour. A staff of NEDAN Foundation spoke regarding laws under the Indian Constitution. The program ended with a fun time and refreshments.

Supplementary Tuition & Test Exam for the girls of Destination Girls Home (DGH)

Ever since the lockdown children have been away from formal education which is hampering their daily learning. However it is important that all children must be engaged in studying along with other activities at home. Since provision of online classes came later, children had to self study. Even now when their are online classes going on some students are not benefiting because they do not have access to internet or for instance own a mobile phone. In order to maintain the balance of formal learning in home environment, NEDAN has been initiating supplementary tuition and test exam for all the girls of Destination Girls Home (DGH) keeping in view the norms of social distancing.

Dignity and Hygiene Kit distribution among the adolescent girls’

Lockdown during Corona Pandemic and its extension have an impact on adolescent girls in accessing menstrual hygiene products. In the first and second phase of lockdown, NEDAN Foundation took an initiative to distribute hygiene and dignity kit among the 2000 adolescent girls in three blocks (Kokrajhar, Dotma and Kochugaon) of Kokrajhar district to ensure a safe and dignified menstruation. This Dignity kit consists of two packets of Sanitary napkins, and hygiene kit consist of one packet of soap, one packet of detergent powder and a mask. A few members of adolescent club took the responsibility to distribute the Dignity and Hygiene kits among the other peer groups of their respective village. The government rules of social distancing and maintaining a proper distance was maintained during the time of distribution. Awareness on Covid 19, discussion on maintaining menstrual hygiene and demonstration of hand washing was also given.

International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2020

NEDAN Foundation observed 8th March as an “International Women’s Day” with the theme of “Each for Equal” with a colorful day of program. With great enthusiastic more than 100 women and children from different corner of Kokrajhar District participated in the program. The program was organized in the presences of Principal of Law College, Kokrajhar Ms. Preeta Brahma & Mrs. Padmini Brahma Social Activist. The program was started with the lighting of the lamp by the invited Guest and followed by a welcome dance by the girls of Destination Girl’s Home (DGH). Ms Preeta Brahama spoke about the different constitutional provisions for the support and safeguard of the women. She mentioned that there are various ways to earn livelihood. Every woman need to take initiative to start something on their own and should do with full commitment. Mrs Padmini spoke on the topic of “women & social entrepreneurship”. She mentioned that women are strong enough to stand on their own feet and do something for the society. Mr. Digambar Narzary, Chairperson of NEDAN Foundation spoke about the women empowerment. He mentioned about sustainable livelihood and talked about how to bring out our skills and abilities to become a successful entrepreneur. Three Women from different parts of Kokrajhar district shared their success story in livelihood. This gives motivation to other women to earn maximum profit with minimum investment. They also thanked NEDAN Foundation for the livelihood support. Mrs Degrw Basumatary, Mrs Rebeka Boro and Mrs Bebika Sheikh are awarded as ‘The Lady of the year (Bwswrari Aijw Banta) for their great success in livelihood sector. They are the inspiration for the other women in the society. The program was ended with an action skit by girls of Destination Girl’s Home (DGH), Anthaigwlao.

NEDAN Foundation observed “Assam State Child Protection Day” on 4th March, 2020 with a colorful day of activities with the students of Public High School at nearest school playground field. Around 150 plus students was participated in the program. The main aims and goals were to protect and kept every child in a safety net.

National Girl Child Day on 24th January, 2020

NEDAN Foundation celebrated National Girl Child Day with the theme “Girls Get Equal”.Girls Get Equal is a global campaign that demands power, freedom and representation of young girls and women. It aims towards a world free from discrimination, harassment and violence and ensures that every girl has the power over her own life. With the aim of empowering girls NEDAN has been trying to uphold and provide a platform where they are able to express and interact with the growing youth icons. The event was celebrated at Hotel Gaurang Valley which was a celebration cum empowerment program. Around 100 participants were present including 3 different schools namely; Don Bosco H.S. School, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Rashtrabhasa Vidyapith High School, Destination Girls Home (DGH), media personnel and the staffs of the organization. NEDAN team was able to invite some of the young personalities from the Bodo film industry namely: Ms. Helina Daimary and Ms. Lipika Brahma to share a platform and interact with adolescent girls and to encourage them. They spoke about their struggles and also gave insights about the conditions of girls in our society. NEDAN’s prime focus is the movement of girls’ empowerment and promoting girls’ education. The two girl Icons from the film industry has been a part of this movement by being the brand ambassadors of the same. The main aim of this movement is to empower girls by supporting and providing opportunities for girl child and by promoting girl education.

Children’s Day on 14th November, 2019

NEDAN Foundation in collaboration with CWC, DSWO, DCPU, DLSA and Jharbari High School, Kokrajhar, BTC, Assam has organized one day cultural and sports event in celebration of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s Birthday on 14th November 2019. Program was attended by Mrs. Malati Rani Narzary, CWC Chairperson Kokrajhar as Chief Guest; Mr. Pradeep Kr. Bargayary HeadMaster of Jharbari High School, Mr. Parsuram Basumatary Vice President Jharbari Anchalik ABSU and Mrs. Geolang Mushahary VCDC Chairman, Jharbari, as Guest of Honour. In the program CWC members, DLSA, Kokrajhar team, DCPU, Kokrajhar team and around 350 children participated in the program. Program was started with inaugural speech by Mr. Digambar Narzary, Chairperson, NEDAN Foundation; he wishes Happy Children’s Day to all the children and shared the objective of the program. Chief Guest of the program Mrs. Malati Rani Narzary wishes happy Children’s Day and in her speech she told to the children present in the program in brief about why 14th November is celebrated as Children’s Day across the nation. With the early life history of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru he encourage the children’s present in the program to follow his early life and accept him as the idol. Guest of Honour Mrs. Geolang Mushahary, VCDC Chairman, Jharbari encouraged children by telling a short story. Mr. Pradeep Kr. Bargayary Head Master of Jharbari High School, Mr. Parsuram Basumatary Vice President Jaharbari Anchalik ABSU also encouraged children to participate in every competition for their own learning and development. The program has witness colorful games, sports and cultural activities for the Children. To attract children’s development on the cultural and sports mentality one day event was organized. To encourage children towards games and sports football match was organized between Jaharbari High School and junior team of Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA), where Jaharbari High School won the match in penalty shootout. As per the guidelines from the CHILDLINE India Foundation Kokrajhar CHILDLINE has conducted the “CHILDLINE se Dosti” campaign in the program with all the participants.

The program was started with the lighting of the lamp by the invited Guest. Pankaj Mazumdar Co-founder cum Chief Technical Officer, Wistech (A unit of code bits technologies LLP), Litan Roy Co-founder cum role operation Wistech (A unit of code bits technologies LLP) & Morin Daimary, Convenor, was invited as Youth Icon for the program. Cultural activities were performed by the children from Destination Girl’s Home and youth from New Bashbari, Joypur. Students of Gossaigaon College, Janata College, Bodofa U.N. College Dotma, Jamduar Junior College, Kokrajhar College and Bodoland University along with the DC took part in the signature campaign to prevent human trafficking and raise awareness about its negative effects in the locality. The Program ended with the motive of eliminating human trafficking from the society.

To mark “World Day Against Trafficking in Persons” on 30th July 2019 with the theme “Government to Action”, drawing competition was conducted for the Adolescent and children group members at Weaving Destination, Anthaigwlao, Chandrapara, Kokrajhar BTC Assam.
